In India, 415 million poor people lifted out of poverty in 15 years.
The remarkable and historical statement made by the United Nations that India’s performance shows goal of reducing poverty by at least half by 2030 is achievable.
The new Multidimensional Poverty Index [MPI] released on 17/10/2022 by the United Nations Development Programme [UNDP] and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative [OPHI] at the University of Oxford, disclosed the following:
That in India 415 million people exited poverty from 2005-06 to 2019-21. The United Nations [UN], described this event as ‘a historic change’ in India.
Based on the year 2020, population data of India has revealed that 228.9 million poor people are still in poverty in India.
